Get to know Claudia Moore
Leading up to the November 2016 edition of Older & Reckless, we will share some surprising Q&A with the O&R artists. First up, MOonhORsE's own Claudia Moore, founder and curator of Older & Reckless.
Q&A With Claudia Moore
What book is on your bedside table? The Sound of the Mountain by Yasunari Kawabata.
What is the best thing about being a dancer who is older and reckless? Still dancing!
Who was most significant teacher and why? I'm grateful for many inspiring teachers. My first ballet teacher, Stella Applebaum- when I was 12, my mom took me to her studio in Buffalo. Stella was a true artist who captivated me with her physical elegance and passion for dance. From my very first class I was hooked! Also the extraordinary Daniel Seillier at the National Ballet School- he gave me a small solo in the final school performance and wrote me a note that said "J'ai confiance en toi", something I needed to hear as a young dancer. And many others including David Earle, Denise Fujiwara, Kazuko Hirabayashi, Amelia Itcush and Lindsay Kemp.
Which artist do you dream of collaborating with and why? Pina Bausch- I would have loved to perform in her exquisite work with her sublime company of dancers.
Which was your favourite city to perform in and why? Paris- city of light where I felt I belonged as an artist- and St John's NL- the most welcoming folks on the planet!

"I worked with Charles during the Apocalypsis process where he assisted MAU's Lemi Ponifasio and led our trainings. I really enjoyed the physical challenge! I highly recommend this workshop for those keen to extend their limits and dig into creation." ~ Claudia Moore

Introducing CSARN - the Canadian Senior Artist Resource Network- supporting senior artists with diverse initiatives, including a terrific Mentorship Program! "To help senior artists stay creative and healthy, CSARN was created following a three-year research project, led by Joysanne Sidimus, that investigated the lives of Canada’s senior artists. Funded by Canadian Heritage, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, and private donors, the Senior Artists Research Project found that Canada’s older artists share the same concerns as those in the general population: financial issues, housing, health, and isolation. But what sets them apart is their desire to continue creating; to continue following the path to which they have dedicated their lives." - Scott Walker CSARN Executive Director CSARN exists to make that path easier to navigate with a number of programs.
