Q&A With Margie Gillis

What book is on your bedside table? The Body keeps the score by Bessel Van Der Kolk, MD.

What is your favourite way to unwind and relax?

Being in nature.

Where do you find inspiration?

In experiential wisdom, humanity. All the experiences of life, nature, the presence of absence, hope.

What is the best thing about being a dancer who is older and reckless?

I am about to discover it. This is my first time jumping in.

Who was your most significant teacher and why?

May O’Donnell, an original Graham dancer because she saw my raw talent and nurtured me in a very challenging environment.

Which artist do you dream of collaborating with and why?

Andy Goldsworthy because he loves nature and the ephemeral quality of life.

Who would you most like to have dinner with and why?

Desmond Tutu, John Louis or the Dalai Lama. I already have the joy of spending time with Joseph Campbell, Leonard Cohen, Jesse Norman and so many other phenomenal human beings who are not famous but who’s hearts and minds are breathtaking.
