April Newsletter

We hope your health and spirits are well in this time of physical separation. It feels good to do our part in keeping everyone safe. Let’s be heroes - check in on our neighbours, wash our hands and stay home!

Here at MOonhORsE we are now Zoom-ing! Carol Anderson, Julia Aplin, Michelle Silagy and I are leading our April series - Engaging Seniors in Dance - via Zoom. After a bumpy start, we now have a grasp of the system and are thrilled to bring dance to 50 senior movers in their own living rooms. Here are some lovely comments from our participants:

"Today's session was soooooooo liberating that my body is craving more! I have not felt such joy in the last 3 weeks" – C LaFrance

That was wonderful and gave me a much-needed lift! I am so looking forward to next week! I love these classes! – L Kado

"I’d like to thank you for an altogether lovely half an hour, so relaxing and inspiring, and I look forward to joining you all again next Tuesday" – S Neale

"That was good fun!" - M Jamiesmith

Staying active and creative can help us during these unsettling times. Here are some online classes we recommend. If online learning is not for you, living room dancing to your fav tunes will do the trick!

Carol will reach out soon with news of upcoming GYROKINESIS® online classes - and/or you can contact her by e-mail here

Info on Julia Aplin’s online movement classes available here

Info on Martha Randall’s Nia classes via Zoom available here

We wish you all the energy of Spring and the comfort of creative activities- cooking, drawing, writing or dancing…whatever makes you feel good!

Dan Wild and Claudia Moore in Half an Hour of our Time

MOonhORsE Dance Theatre mourns the passing of Dan Wild. Dan was a brilliant dance artist and a beautiful human. He performed several times at Older & Reckless- in Peter Chin's community project Tell Everyone (2017) and in Marie-Josée Chartier’s étude pour quatuor/study for quartet (2018). MDT sends deepest condolences to Dan’s family and friends.

“Dan and I performed Half an Hour of our Time- a duet created for us by James Kudelka- entirely in silence. It remains a highlight of my dance life. We performed it as part of Dances in a Small Room, along with Tedd Robinson's duet, lonesome, at Young Centre for the Performing Arts in 2009, and in 2011- 2012, on a Canadian tour. Dan was a consummate performer. His sensitive and generous partnering in that work was profound, as was his shining performance. I cherish our time together and will deeply miss all he brought to the stage.”

– Claudia Moore
