THE GATHERING WAS A BLAST

Wow. That was a blast!
The Gathering was a super fun evening, where folks came out, ate, drank and danced the night away.

  • On August 4th, 10 Toronto-based dance orgs and companies got together and threw a mighty rager. The Gathering was a super fun evening, where folks came out, ate, drank and danced the night away.

Huge thanks to Raoul Wilkes (DJ), Karen Kaeja & Porter Cummings (cupcake decorators + support team), Lester's Deli (smoked meat sandwiches), Sublime Catering, and our dance community partners SummerWorks, Citadel & Cie, DanceMakers, Dreamwalker Dance Company, DanceWorks, TDT, CanAsian Dance, dance Immersion, CADA.

Maybe, just maybe, this should be an annual event...

  • It’s a brave new era! Welcome!

We are super grateful to Teagan Cook from GPG Designs for taking in our vision and heart and translating it into this site. She has done an incredible job, right?! And wow, what a pleasure to work with her. Check her out! - gpg-designs.com

Working on this new hub of information has encouraged us to get even more clear on who we are and what is at the core of what we do. And perfect timing because we have LOTS in store for YOU! Keep an eye on these pages as we announce this next season's activities.

THINGS WORTH CARING ABOUT

TAKING IT BACK TO OUR ROOTS

  • Take a drive down our Archival Highway… back to the beginning and glance over the many artists that have been presented by MDT since 2000.

REFLECTIONS ON THE INDUSTRY

  • Some observations…
We, at Moonhorse Dance Theatre, along with Arts practitioners throughout Canada, have been listening and observing as many changes occur in our industry and how the loss of so much foundation is affecting the health of professional artists spiritually, mentally, physically, and practically.

From companies folding, leadership roles in limbo, the loss of dozens of rehearsal and performance spaces, and announcements of Government funding cuts amidst overwhelmingly large numbers of Arts Councils applications for funding; the list of discombobulated theatres, dance companies, galleries, and organizations reaches across the country.

MDT is dedicated to the support of lifelong dance artists: those who have spent their entire lives through thick and thin, mastering their craft, taking risks creatively and financially, repeatedly waiting for months for their project grant approval to know if they are working or not. Yet year after year they persevere. Amid all this instability, now is the time to support each other and the arts communities we so love.

    How can you help?

    • Learn about grant dissemination processes of the arts councils by visiting their websites and contact them with concerns. Here’s a recent letter from the Director/CEO of the Canada Council of the Arts addressed to the Canadian Arts Community. It gives you an idea of where we are at…

    • Listen carefully to policy makers as they speak about cultural and arts issues.

    • Talk to your friends, families, and colleagues about the importance of arts programming in our cities and towns.

    • Support by donation to Arts organizations that you wish to see grow.

    • And most importantly, go see a show! Bring a friend!

    We are rich in culture.

A HEARTFELT THANK YOU

  • A HEARTFELT THANK YOU… to EVERYONE who has, and continues to, contribute to our well-being as an organisation! Your support allows us to, in turn, nurture and amplify the voices of artists who have spent their lifetimes taking risks and progressing dance as an art form.

We could not do this without you!

We look forward to continuing to persevere alongside you, in community.
